How to Read This Privacy Policy
A privacy policy describes a relationship with obligations on both sides and some honest limits. This one is laid out in four parts to match: what the platform may do with information, what we ask of you, what we are unable to promise, and what you are entitled to ask of us.
Throughout, please read "may" literally. The platform might not have user accounts, contribution tools, analytics, or advertising. Where we describe one of those, we are describing what applies when the feature exists on the platform, and not asserting that it does. This Privacy Policy concerns the platform only and not any third-party website.
Laws in view
This Privacy Policy is intended to address applicable privacy and data-protection requirements. Where they apply, these include the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and applicable UK data-protection legislation, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), other U.S. state privacy laws, cookie and electronic communications rules, and other national, state, or regional privacy regulations. Which of them apply to you is a matter of your location, the platform's activities, the information collected, and the technologies used.
Part One: What the Platform May Do
Collect technical data
When you visit, the platform may automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, the date and time of visits, and general geographic information. It may also collect data through cookies and similar technologies, as well as analytics information.
Receive what you send
The platform may receive contact form information. If registration is available, it may receive registration or account information. If it offers publication, listing, bookmarking, press release, directory, comment, profile, or similar functionality, it may receive the content you submit, which can include articles, business listings, directory listings, press releases, URLs, website submissions, bookmarks, comments, profiles, business information, contact information, images, documents, and other content.
Publish what you submit for publication
Content submitted for public display may be published on the platform once approved.
Use information for defined purposes
- Operating and maintaining the platform and providing its functionality
- Processing user submissions, reviewing submitted content, publishing approved content, and managing listings
- Responding to inquiries
- Preventing spam, fraud, and abuse and maintaining security
- Analytics and performance measurement, understanding usage, and improving functionality
- Legal and regulatory compliance and enforcing platform policies
- Advertising, where applicable
Rely on a legal basis where one is required
In jurisdictions that require a legal basis for processing, including those under the GDPR and UK GDPR, we may rely on consent, performance of a contract, legitimate interests, or compliance with legal obligations, depending on the specific processing activity.
Use cookies and similar technologies
The platform may use essential, functional, analytics, advertising, and third-party cookies, as well as pixels, tags, and similar tracking technologies. The technologies in use vary from one website to another.
Use analytics services
We may use third-party analytics services to understand how visitors interact with the platform and to improve its performance.
Display advertising
The platform may display third-party advertisements, though it will not necessarily do so. Where it does, advertising partners and advertising networks may use advertising cookies, device identifiers, and other advertising technologies, and advertising may be contextual, personalized, or interest-based.
Work with service providers
The platform may use external hosting providers, analytics providers, advertising providers, security services, spam-prevention tools, content delivery networks, embedded media providers, social media services, technical service providers, and other vendors. These third parties may process information in accordance with their own privacy policies and legal obligations.
Disclose information in limited cases
Where applicable and legally permitted, we may disclose information to professional advisers, to legal authorities, courts, regulators, and law enforcement, and to successors in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, sale, or transfer of assets.
Process information in other countries
Information may be processed, stored, or transferred in countries other than your country of residence, and legally required safeguards may be used for international transfers where applicable.
Part Two: What We Ask of You
Keep private information out of public content
Please do not submit confidential, private, or sensitive personal information in content intended for public publication.
Do not send highly sensitive data through public forms
Please avoid submitting government identification numbers, financial account credentials, medical information, or other highly sensitive personal details through public submission forms, unless we specifically request them and they are necessary.
Check other websites before trusting them with data
The platform may contain links to external websites, including in articles, press releases, directory entries, bookmarks, and listings. Those websites have their own privacy policies. Please review them before providing personal information.
Help us protect children
The platform is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children below the age required by applicable law. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact us through the Contact Us page.
Part Three: What We Cannot Promise
That published content can be made private again
Once information is published, it may be accessed by visitors, indexed and cached by search engines, viewed by third parties, shared through external websites, and copied or redistributed outside our control. We can remove content from the platform, but we cannot undo what has happened elsewhere.
That information will always be secure
We may use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. We cannot guarantee complete security, because no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
That external websites handle information as we do
We do not control the privacy practices of external websites.
That every browser signal will be acted on
We may recognize Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by applicable law. Do Not Track signals have no common standard, and the platform may not respond to them unless required by law.
That personal information is never sold or shared in the legal sense
The words "sale" and "sharing" have broad legal definitions, and monetization arrangements differ from website to website. We therefore make no absolute statement. If activities conducted through the platform constitute a sale or sharing of personal information under applicable law, eligible users may have the right to opt out.
That every law applies to every visitor
Privacy rights differ by jurisdiction. The rights described in Part Four are available only where the relevant law applies.
Part Four: What You Can Ask of Us
The rights below depend on applicable law, may be subject to exceptions, and may require identity verification.
Under the GDPR
You may ask to access your personal information, to have it corrected or rectified, to have it deleted or erased, and to have its processing restricted. You may object to processing, ask for data portability, and withdraw consent. You may lodge a complaint with an appropriate supervisory authority.
Under UK law
Where the UK GDPR and applicable UK data-protection legislation apply, you may make corresponding requests and may complain to the UK supervisory authority.
Under California law
Where the CCPA and CPRA apply, you may have the right to know, the right to access, the right to correct, and the right to delete. Where applicable, you may have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information, the right to opt out of sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, and the right to limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information. You also have the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
Under other U.S. state laws
Residents of certain U.S. states may have privacy rights under applicable state laws. These depend on place of residence, applicability thresholds, the platform's activities, and applicable law.
Cookie and advertising choices
You may manage cookies through your browser settings, through cookie controls on the platform where available, and through consent management mechanisms where applicable. You may also have advertising choices, including opt-out mechanisms required by applicable law.
How to ask
Please send every request through the Contact Us page on the platform. This covers requests for access, correction, deletion, data portability, and restriction, as well as objections, consent withdrawal, advertising opt-outs, sale or sharing opt-outs, and other legally available privacy rights. We may need to verify your identity and may ask for additional information. Legal exceptions may apply to some requests. We will handle requests from authorized agents where applicable law requires.
Retention
We may retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for providing functionality, processing submissions, maintaining published content, administration, security, fraud prevention, recordkeeping, legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing agreements.
Changes and Effective Date
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically because of changes in platform functionality, data-processing practices, technologies, cookies, third-party services, business practices, applicable laws, or regulatory requirements. The revised Privacy Policy will be posted on the platform. This Privacy Policy becomes effective when published on the platform and remains in effect until a revised version is posted.
